Lebanese Lawyers Practice.

How lawyers are trained, admitted, and regulated in Lebanon, a concise introduction for foreign colleagues and prospective clients.

The legal profession in Lebanon is governed by Law No. 8/1970 on the Organisation of the Legal Profession and by the internal regulations of the Beirut and Tripoli Bar Associations.

01

Admission to the Bar

Candidates must hold a Lebanese law degree (or a recognised foreign equivalent), pass the Bar entrance exam, and complete a three-year traineeship under a senior attorney. Full admission follows a professional oath.

02

Rules of professional conduct

  • Independence and dignity of the profession
  • Client confidentiality and professional secrecy
  • Prohibition of conflicts of interest
  • Duties of competence, diligence, and loyalty
  • Restrictions on advertising
03

Court appearances

Only attorneys registered with a Lebanese bar may plead before Lebanese courts. Foreign counsel may participate as advisors but must associate with a local attorney for representation.
